Gravy beef for summer
Gravy beef, typically known for its rich and tender texture, can be used in a variety of summer recipes. Simply beef shin off the bone, one option is to slow-cook the beef in a tomato-based sauce with fresh herbs like basil and thyme, then serve it with pasta or grilled vegetables. Another idea is to braise the beef in a barbecue sauce, which adds a smoky flavour, making it ideal for outdoor meals with an American cookout vibe.
Alternatively, you can slice the cooked beef thinly and add it to a salad with seasonal vegetables, such as roasted peppers and a light citrus dressing. Gravy beef can be easily adapted to suit the lighter, fresher meals of summer.
Essentially, any recipe that calls for slow cooking beef, can have gravy beef used instead. Don’t put that slow cooker away in summer, use it while you’re at the beach and come home to a truly tasty dinner. Join us as we talk you through some of our favourite summer beef recipes and how to use gravy beef in them.
Cheats beef rendang
We love Jenny’s tamarind chutney as an easy hack to Thai cuisine and this beef rendang is a slow cooked dream. We love to swap the chuck steak for gravy beef, knowing that it will still be full of flavour. In summer, serve it with crisp lettuce leaves and fresh chilli for a lighter, brighter meal.
Lemongrass braised beef noodle salad
Lean into the Vietnamese vibes with this braised beef noodle salad. We like to make double the amount of beef – it cooks for the same time and gives you a tender beef that is tasty tossed through salads for summer. Freeze for an easy future meal and simply steam it to gently reheat.
Beef tacos with creamy avocado salsa
This is the perfect entertaining meal and we love the fact the slow-cooker does all the hard work. Swap chuck steak for gravy beef and just continue with the recipe as is. You’ll end up with Mexi-magic everyone will loves.
Pulled beef nachos
We can’t talk about gravy beef and not include our most popular nachos recipe. Turn the slow cooker on in the morning and then when you come home, you’ve got the easiest nachos you’ve ever made. Perfect after a big day at the beach.
This recipe calls for bolar roast but we know that gravy beef works just as well. Again, just throw everything into your slow cooker and leave it for the day. Cook up some pasta when you get home and throw a big green salad together and you’ve got an easy dinner, even in summer.
The leftovers from this, are perfect tucked into a pastry case for a family pie…
Pulled beef sliders
Swap the rump steak for gravy beef, cook for an extra hour and you’ll end up with the same result. Tender, rich and fall apart beef that is perfect for a share plate when stuffed into brioche rolls – don’t forget the pickles!

Fragrant and creamy, this Vietnamese curry is perfect with whichever slow cook cut you choose and we think it’s equally delicious in summer as the cooler months. Just adjust what you serve it with – a crisp vegetable salad is the perfect accompaniment in sunnier days.
