Family-friendly lamb dishes to enjoy this autumn

Autumn has arrived, bringing with it a wonderful change in the air as the days grow shorter and the nights draw in. The crisp, cool breeze sweeps through, and the trees burst into vibrant hues of red, amber, and gold. It’s the season for cosy evenings indoors, where we can escape the chill and indulge in warming comfort food.

The rich flavours of lamb, paired with autumn’s root vegetables and herbs, make it a comforting choice as we embrace the season’s changes. It’s a time to enjoy simple pleasures and the changing rhythms of the year. We’ve gathered our favourite ways to eat lamb as the seasons change…

This viral pasta is so easy, and we love it for the ultimate 15 minute dinner. Make sure you had in a healthy handful of greens as well – we love rocket if you can’t find spinach.

Lamb loin with Indian spiced cauliflower

This salad is vibrant and jam-packed with big flavours. Put this on the table in front of guests and you’ll find it gobbled up in the blink of an eye. We’ve swapped the pumpkin for kumara in the past and it’s just as delicious!

Hearty lamb and rosemary pie

Few things are more comforting than a hearty pie. This one checks all our boxes, is loaded with veggies and tender slow cooked shoulder. A healthy spoonful of relish on the side is all these puff pastry dreams need.

Still craving those summer vegetables but wanting something more convenient? We love Delmaine’s canned pepperonata for exactly that reason. Topped with tender lamb, it’s a delicious feast for the whole family.

Lamb shanks in satay sauce

Grab a jar of Sone’s satay sauce, get your slow cooker out and this dinner will be a firm family favourite. These shanks are quick to set up and smell amazing when you get home. Serve with a pile of seasonal veggies and some steamed rice.

Slow cooked lamb chops with leek, silverbeet and orzo

We love slow cooked lamb chops and this orzo bake is a hearty way to feed a crowd. Leeks and silverbeet are a winning combination – make sure you use the white and a decent amount of the dark green part of the leek.

Herby lamb biryani

Revel in fragrant Indian flavours in a curry that’s mild enough for the kids and full of flavour for the adults. Best served with lashings of plain yoghurt and fresh roti on the side.

Greek lamb shoulder parcel

Raid the deli section and fill this parcel with lamb, olives and late season cherry tomatoes. The juices all marry together for an incredible sauce. Potatoes help balance everything and you’ve got a winner.

Baked lamb chops

A thick tomato sauce encases tender lamb neck chops for an affordable and tasty dinner. We love these served with couscous and a flourish of coriander over the top.

Cumin lamb stir fry

Punchy flavours, tender lamb and delicious vegetables make a great stir fry to help you with the mid week hustle. Tossed through noodles and with some seasonal greens and this is a Chinese stir fry you’ll love.

Head to Italy with this Tuscan lamb dish. Sitting on top of a gently stew of eggplant and capsicums, this dinner brings all the Mediterranean vibe. Complete with creamy polenta, all you need is to garnish with olives, basil and a little parmesan cheese.

This sauce is quick to make and yet, utterly transforms what you’re eating. We love this with steamed brown rice and seasonal vegetables for a balanced meal.
